Motel Cecil / THAT'S LIFE I GUESS... AND IT SUCKS! Book + CD

THAT’S LIFE I GUESS… AND IT SUCKS! CD including one random track + square-format photographic book, 21 × 21 cm, 50 pages, digitally printed in high quality and glue-bound. 

Conceived as extension of Motel Cecil’s self-titled EP, the publication features full-bleed photographic spreads and a rectangular-shaped-CD. The project brings together Motel Cecil music and Orlando’s photographic vision.

“When Cecilia and I first met, we already knew each other from instagram. I loved her music and her character had always fascinated me. she reached out through DMs and asked me to shoot the covers for four unreleased singles she had been working on for a while. but one side quest after another led us through so many unexpected turns that it’s hard not to laugh about it now. the pictures in this book can only tell part of the story: a year of friendship and creative growth on both sides, but also days spent by the sea or at home, leafing through books and playing guitar.

We never made a moodboard for these pictures. it was just Cecilia and the way I saw her through my lens (and the way she saw herself through it again), a few loose images from her notebook, the lyrics of her songs, some drawings, some stickers.

this book brings everything together as a long sequence of possible covers, holding inside the CD with one random track from her EP, “That’s Life I Guess…and It Sucks!”, shaped like a very Motel-Cecil-ish cassette tape. in this project photography and music are bonded together, just as Cecilia and I became while bringing it to life.”
